Background Information – UNOPS

The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is an operational arm of the United Nations, supporting the successful implementation of its partners’ peacebuilding, humanitarian and development projects around the world.  UNOPS supports partners to build a better future by providing services that increase the efficiency, effectiveness and of peace building, humanitarian and development projects. Mandated as a central resource of the United Nations, UNOPS provides sustainable project management, procurement and infrastructure services to a wide range of governments, donors and United Nations organizations. 

Background Information – Sudan

The UNOPS Sudan office is based in Khartoum and works closely with the Government of Sudan and international partners to support humanitarian response, recovery and development initiatives. UNOPS is the United Nations sector lead for the Basic Infrastructure Sector in Sudan and helps partners achieve their project goals in sectors including: water resource management, education, census and elections, human resource management and mine action.

The internship is a learning and working opportunity that targets recent graduates. The intern will assist in the UNOPS Sudan office and will be exposed to practical learning and working experiences that foster development of his /her path. The Intern will work full time and follow the same working hours as UNOPS employees. A monthly stipend will be provided to the intern

Functional Responsibilities

Under the close supervision of the Associate, the intern will be expected to engage in the support of HR tasks and to selectively drive particular work items on their own as part of their on-the-job learning .
His/her responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Actively participate in recruitment outreach efforts for all active recruitments as per the outreach plan
  • Assist in checking and proofreading ToRs on proper grammar and format use in advertisements before they are posted
  • Assist in reference checking process of candidates
  • Report on completion of mandatory courses
  • Assist in the compiling of different HR reports as appropriate
  • Follow up on confirmation of approvals for contract extensions
  • Follow up on confirmation of budget lines with hiring units during recruitment’s
  • Logistical assistance in planning, organizing and preparation of interviews, and other relevant events
  • Support the identification and documentation of best practices and lessons learnt, including coordination and organization wide implementation of knowledge sharing and documentation methodologies
  • Assist in HR filing as applicable
  • Maintenance of the database
  • Other tasks as deemed relevant


Minimum first level university degree, preferably in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or related field is required. Only applicants who have graduated from such studies within the recent three years will  be considered eligible for the position.


  • Applicants are not required to have professional work experience.
  • Proficiency in Web applications such as google suite, office applications is an asset.


Intermediate or above proficiency level of English & Arabic is required.
